The Duke River Center is comprised of four PIs and their respective lab groups. Each group brings a unique perspective to our evolving understanding of stream and ecosystem dynamics, and to our ability to inform the policy and management decisions we make that affect river ecosystems.
Bernhardt Lab
We study the movement of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus (and increasingly iron, sulfur, trace metals, and nanoparticles) within and between forests, floodplains, wetlands and streams. Emanuel Lab
Water is life! We study water and its relationships to ecosystems and people. Our research interests are diverse and include ecohydrological processes that affect terrestrial water balances, and Indigenous perspectives on water and the environment. |
Doyle Lab
We like Rivers! From chasing sand grains to tracing landscape genetics, we try to understand the context for river science in society. We also work on policy, how it effects river management, and implications for water governance. Heffernan Lab
We are a diverse group of ecologists interested in the structure and function of streams, wetlands, and other ecosystems shaped by the flow of water. |
We are located in the Juli Plant Grainger Center for River Science at
